In 1975 Bowie began his most experimental phase with Station to Station (1976), aiming to merge the white-boy “plastic soul” of Young Americans (1975) with the ‘krautrock’ groove of Can and Kraftwerk electronica, reaching towards a new aesthetic.
Heroes expresses the fractured psyche of Berlin’s decadence and desolation, mirroring Bowie’s struggle to make a fresh start.
